I once had a comic art professor at Academy of Art University tell me that nothing is truly original, but that the trick was going to the source of works that you like and seeing what inspired them. Doing that can make your idea veer off in very unique tangents that eventually become very original. I thinks that is very true. If you like Star Wars, then check out Frank Herbert's Dune.
